Funding
for members to attend scientific conferences
STaRNet London recognises the importance of attending scientific conferences. Presentation of ongoing and recent research results in dissemination and, hopefully, implementation of research findings. It also helps members to develop new skills. Subject to the conditions set out below we will fund reasonable travel and accommodation costs and conference fees for our members.
We need to balance funding members to attend conferences with the need to fund our other activities, especially developing, undertaking and writing up research and applying for external grants.
We recognise that members may wish to attend conferences to learn about research. A small amount of funding is available for this through our training scheme.
Conditions
of funding conference attendance
- Applicants must be members of STaRNet
London.
- Application to STaRNet London for funding for conference attendance
must be made 3 weeks before abstract submission deadline. Applications
for Mental Health and People with Learning Disability presentations should
be made to Dr Mark Ashworth (Mark.Ashworth@gp-g85053.nhs.uk). All other applications
should be made to Gill Rowlands (growland@sgul.ac.uk). We will usually
only fund one author of each abstract to attend. We will only fund members
to attend if their abstract is accepted for oral or poster presentation.
- The conference should be of national or international importance to primary
care.
- The project to be presented must have also been submitted to a scientific
journal for consideration for publication. Exceptionally Drs Ashworth or
Rowlands may ask members to submit abstracts for conferences before submission
of a scientific paper.
- For national conferences decisions on funding will
be made by two members of the STaRNet London Scientific Committee. For
International conferences decisions on funding will be made by members of
the STaRNet London Academic Liaison group. For details of group members please
contact Gill Rowlands.
- Funding decisions will be made according to the national or international importance
of the conference to primary care and the reviewers' assessment of the national
or international importance of the work to be presented.
Please submit the
conference abstract application form (with any additional information we need
to make a funding decision) to Dr Ashworth or Dr Rowlands. Thank you. |
